Volunteer Corner - Linda and William

Linda and William Lo became involved in politics in 2000 when they joined Betty Unger’s (Canadian Alliance Candidate in Edmonton West) Campaign. After that election they immediately took on responsible roles on the Edmonton West Board of Directors. Although redistribution meant their residence was now located in Edmonton Spruce Grove EDA and Linda became active on that new Board, they have both continued to be major contributors to Edmonton Centre and Laurie Hawn’s electoral success, particularly in the 2006 defeat of the Liberal Deputy Prime Minister.

William Lo has acted in the capacity of Official Agent for Laurie Hawn in three elections. It’s noteworthy that after the 2008 election, Edmonton Centre was the first in the country to receive the Election Canada refund which is a credit to his ability to manage campaign spending and reporting.

Linda’s official title in campaigns has been Scheduler for the candidate but she has never hesitated to take on many additional tasks, like planning events and liasing with Senior Residences.

Linda and William have been married for 24 years. Linda was born in Malaysia and William in Hong Kong. We are happy they chose to come to Canada in 1988. William is a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and Linda is a Constituency Assistant in Laurie Hawn’s Constituency Office. She is also the Volunteer Treasurer for the CPC Northern Alberta Area Office. Linda is an avid and accomplished knitter so if she is wearing a sweater when you meet her, chances are it is a personal creation!

Volunteer Corner - Ed and Deb

Ed & Debbie Braun are truly a power couple. They have been activists in provincial and federal politics for the past 15 years. Both have taken on significant roles on the Edmonton Centre Board of Directors. Ed has served as the President, Vice-President, Chair of Nomination Committees, and for the past four years as Secretary. Debbie was Secretary and now is Webmaster for the Edmonton Centre website and Communications Chair. We can count on both in campaigns—Debbie is an IT specialist and Ed is one of those door-knockers who can keep up with Laurie!

Other volunteer work includes board positions with the Wildrose Alliance, the Parkview Community League, and many church activities. Their healthy life style (Ed’s daily bike commute to work and biking holidays for both) enables them to enjoy an active life with their family. Three of their four children are married with three grandchildren and two more on the way. All live in Edmonton at present and often enjoy family holidays together, most recently in the Cook Islands.

Last but not least, they have a great gift for adding fun to our board socials. It can mean crazy games, encouraging tacky costumes, or providing great food (Deb’s recipe web site is one to visit often!)
